[How we work](https://cyanorbit.com/process)

A mobile app has to work in conditions a web app never faces: a dropped connection on a job site, a phone at eleven percent battery, a push notification that has to arrive even when the app is closed. As a mobile app development company, we build native iOS and Android apps and cross-platform apps with Flutter and React Native, and we design for these conditions from the first sprint instead of patching them in before launch.

Every app we build goes through the same gate the app stores enforce: real device testing, a TestFlight or internal testing track before public release, and an App Store or Play Store submission that accounts for review guidelines rather than getting rejected on the first attempt. Offline behavior, background sync, push notifications and camera, location or Bluetooth access are scoped as part of the architecture, not added at the end.

The apps we ship are built to be maintained: a codebase your team or ours can keep releasing against as iOS and Android versions move forward, with crash reporting and analytics in place from the first release so problems surface before users start leaving reviews about them.

## Problems we are usually brought in to solve

- Our field team loses connectivity constantly and the app just breaks when that happens.
- We submitted to the App Store and got rejected for a guideline we didn't know existed.
- Push notifications work on Android but not reliably on iOS, and we don't know why.
- We built the app with a template kit and now we can't add the feature our business actually needs.
- Battery drain complaints are showing up in our app store reviews.
- We need one codebase for iOS and Android because we can't afford to build and maintain two.

What we deliver

## Mobile App Development services

- ### Native iOS Development
Swift-based apps for cases that need deep platform integration, top-tier performance or access to iOS APIs that cross-platform frameworks expose late or not at all.
- ### Native Android Development
Kotlin-based apps built against the device fragmentation and permission model that Android specifically requires.
- ### Cross-Platform Development
Flutter or React Native apps sharing one codebase across iOS and Android, chosen when the app does not need the deepest native integrations and a single team maintaining one codebase matters more.
- ### Offline-First Architecture
Local data storage and sync logic so the app stays usable without a connection and reconciles cleanly once one returns.
- ### Push Notifications and Background Processing
Notification delivery, deep linking and background task handling built against each platform's actual constraints, not a single shared assumption that breaks on one of them.
- ### Device API Integration
Camera, GPS, Bluetooth, biometric authentication and other hardware-level features integrated with the permission flows each platform requires.
- ### App Store and Play Store Submission
Store listing preparation, TestFlight and internal testing rollout, and handling review feedback so the app launches without a preventable rejection.

You receive

## Deliverables

- A published or submission-ready app on the App Store and Google Play
- The app's source code in your own repository from the first commit
- Crash reporting and analytics wired in from the first release
- A TestFlight or internal testing build for stakeholder review before public launch
- Push notification infrastructure configured for both platforms
- App store assets: screenshots, descriptions and privacy disclosures
- A release and versioning process your team can run for future updates

How we work

## Our mobile app development process

1. ### Platform and framework decision
We decide native versus cross-platform based on which device APIs the app actually needs and how much of the experience must feel platform-specific.
2. ### Offline and permission mapping
We define what the app has to do without connectivity and which device permissions it will request, and design both into the architecture up front.
3. ### Build with real device testing
Development is tested continuously on physical devices, not only simulators, since battery, GPS accuracy and camera behavior differ from what a simulator reports.
4. ### TestFlight and internal testing rollout
Before public release, the app goes to a TestFlight group on iOS and an internal testing track on Android so real users catch issues simulators miss.
5. ### App store submission
We prepare the store listing and submit for review, and handle any guideline feedback from Apple or Google without treating a first rejection as a crisis.
6. ### Post-launch monitoring
Crash reports and analytics are reviewed against the first release cycles so issues that only appear at real-world scale get fixed quickly.

## Native, Flutter or React Native

Native development gives the most direct access to each platform's APIs and the most control over performance, which matters for apps doing heavy camera processing, complex animation or deep integration with platform-specific hardware. It also means maintaining two codebases going forward.

Flutter and React Native let one codebase serve both platforms, which lowers ongoing maintenance cost and is the right call for most business apps, e-commerce apps, booking apps and internal tools where the platform-specific edge is not the differentiator. We recommend cross-platform by default and native when a specific requirement, usually a device API or a performance target, makes it the better fit.

## Designing for Offline Use From the Start

Field service, delivery and healthcare apps in particular have to keep working when connectivity drops, which means local storage, a sync queue and conflict resolution logic have to be part of the architecture, not a feature added after the online version ships.

We design the sync model around what happens when two people edit related data while both are offline, since that is the scenario that breaks apps built without a plan for it. Getting this right up front avoids a rebuild later once real-world usage exposes the gap.

- Local-first data storage with a defined sync strategy
- Conflict resolution rules agreed before the edge case happens in production
- Clear UI signaling when the app is operating offline

## Getting Through App Store Review Without a Rejection

Apple and Google reject apps for reasons that are documented but easy to miss: incomplete privacy disclosures, login flows that do not meet guest-access requirements, or metadata that does not match the app's actual behavior. We check submissions against current review guidelines before the first submission rather than treating rejection as a normal part of the process.

When feedback does come back, we distinguish between a guideline the app genuinely fails and reviewer misunderstanding, and respond to each differently rather than making changes that were never actually required.

Budget

## What drives cost and timeline

- ### Native versus cross-platform scope
Two native codebases cost more to build than one cross-platform codebase, but native is worth it when the app depends heavily on platform-specific APIs.
- ### Offline and sync complexity
An app that only needs a cached read-only view is simpler than one that has to reconcile edits made offline by multiple users.
- ### Device API depth
Camera and location are relatively simple integrations; Bluetooth device pairing, biometric authentication and background location tracking take considerably more testing.
- ### Backend and API dependencies
An app backed by an existing API is faster to build than one that also needs a new backend built alongside it.
- ### Number of platforms and OS versions supported
Supporting older OS versions or a wider range of device sizes adds testing and, occasionally, feature compromises to the timeline.

FAQ

## Mobile App Development FAQs

Should we build a native app or a cross-platform app?

Cross-platform frameworks like Flutter and React Native are the right default for most business apps, since one codebase covers both platforms and lowers ongoing maintenance. Native development is worth the extra cost when the app depends heavily on platform-specific APIs, needs top-tier animation performance, or must adopt a new OS feature the day it ships.

How do you prevent our app from getting rejected by Apple or Google?

We check the build against current App Store and Play Store review guidelines before the first submission, covering common rejection causes like incomplete privacy disclosures and login flows that skip guest access. We also use TestFlight and Android's internal testing track to catch issues before a public submission.

Can our app work when field staff lose cell signal?

Yes, we design offline-first apps with local data storage and a sync queue that reconciles once connectivity returns. The harder part is defining what happens when two people edit related records while both are offline, which we resolve during design rather than after users hit the conflict.

Why do push notifications behave differently on iOS versus Android?

The two platforms handle background execution, notification permissions and delivery guarantees differently, and a shared cross-platform notification library does not eliminate those platform-level differences. We configure notification handling per platform and test delivery under real background and locked-screen conditions rather than only in the foreground.

How long does it take to build and launch a mobile app?

A cross-platform app with a moderate feature set, accounts, a core workflow, push notifications, typically takes twelve to eighteen weeks including TestFlight and internal testing rounds before submission. Apps with heavier offline sync, device integrations or native performance requirements usually run five to eight months.

Do you build the backend our app needs, or only the app itself?

Both, when needed. Most apps depend on an API for accounts, data sync and business logic, and we build that alongside the app when one does not already exist, rather than treating the backend as a separate project handed off elsewhere.

What happens after our app is live? Who handles updates for new iOS and Android versions?

You own the code from the first commit, so your team can take over releases directly. Most clients keep us on for ongoing maintenance, since new OS versions periodically require SDK updates and app store policy changes that need monitoring beyond the initial release.
